How to Install a Fixed Window
Step 1: Measure and Prepare
Start by measuring the width and height of the window opening. Make sure to account for any trim or framing that may be present. Once you have the measurements, remove any old window or debris from the opening.
Step 2: Apply Caulk
Apply a bead of caulk along the inside edges of the window opening. This will help create a seal and prevent any drafts or water leaks.
Step 3: Set the Window
Carefully place the fixed window into the opening, ensuring it is centered and level. Use shims to adjust and secure the window in place. Check for levelness and adjust as needed.
Step 4: Secure the Window
Once the window is properly positioned, secure it in place using screws or nails. Make sure to follow the manufacturer's instructions for the specific window model.
Step 5: Insulate and Seal
Insulate around the window frame using expanding foam insulation. This will help improve energy efficiency and prevent air leaks. After the insulation has dried, seal any gaps or joints with caulk.
Step 6: Finish and Clean Up
Trim any excess shims and clean up any debris or caulk residue. Inspect the window for any visible damage or defects. Finally, test the window to ensure it opens and closes smoothly.
