How to Install a Basement Window
Materials Needed:
- Basement window
- Measuring tape
- Hammer
- Chisel
- Level
- Screwdriver
- Caulking gun
- Insulation foam
- Window flashing
- Exterior trim
- Screws
Step 1: Measure and Prepare
Measure the size of the window opening in your basement wall. Ensure that the window you have is the correct size or make necessary adjustments.
Step 2: Remove Old Window
Using a hammer and chisel, carefully remove any old window or frame from the opening. Clean the area thoroughly.
Step 3: Install Window Flashing
Apply window flashing around the perimeter of the window opening. This will help prevent water infiltration.
Step 4: Insert the Window
Carefully place the window into the opening, ensuring it is level and centered. Use shims if needed to achieve proper alignment.
Step 5: Secure the Window
Using screws, secure the window to the surrounding wall. Make sure it is firmly in place.
