How to Install an Egress Window
Step 1: Gather the necessary tools and materials
Before you begin the installation process, make sure you have the following tools and materials:
- Measuring tape
- Hammer
- Drill
- Saw
- Screwdriver
- Caulk gun
- Window well
- Window
- Concrete blocks
- Gravel
- Waterproofing membrane
Step 2: Measure and mark the window opening
Using a measuring tape, determine the dimensions for the window opening on the wall. Mark the measurements with a pencil or marker.
Step 3: Cut the opening
Using a saw, carefully cut along the marked lines to create the window opening. Be sure to wear safety goggles and gloves during this step.
Step 4: Prepare the window well
Dig a hole outside the window opening that is deep enough to accommodate the window well. Make sure the hole is level and free from any debris.
Step 5: Install the window well
Place the window well into the hole and secure it in place using concrete blocks. Ensure that the window well is level and stable.
Step 6: Install the window
Apply a layer of waterproofing membrane around the edges of the window opening. Carefully place the window into the opening and secure it in place using screws or nails.
Step 7: Backfill the window well
Add a layer of gravel around the window well to promote proper drainage. Make sure the gravel is evenly distributed and compacted.
Step 8: Finish the installation
Apply caulk around the edges of the window to seal any gaps. Clean up any debris or excess materials from the installation process.
